Pomegranate Martini

I love a martini glass. I think they’re sexy as hell. There’s something about the shape that harkens back to the time of F. Scott Fitzgerald. Whenever I hold one in my hand, I feel sophisticated, worldly and fabulous. Which is why I love anything served in a martini glass… except actual martinis. I think they taste like lighter fluid with a hint of  olive. Thankfully, there are lots of fantastic, frothy options for those of us who prefer a cocktail that doesn’t double as a paint thinner. Like this fantastic Pomegranate Martini recipe from Oprah.

First off, this martini tastes delicious. It’s clean, tart and fresh with no added sugar (well, other than the booze). Second, thanks to the unsweetened pomegranate juice, I can even convince myself that it’s good for me. In case you’ve been living under a log, pomegranate is one of those super foods that truly is super. Packed with punicalagins, a powerful anti-oxidant, pomegranate has been proven to help reduce inflammation in the body which wards off all kinds of hateful diseases like cancer, diabetes and heart disease. It’s also been shown to reduce joint pain, lower blood pressure and improve memory. Of course, drinking too much booze typically makes me loose my memory so, on that point, it’s kind of a wash, but all in all,  mixing pomegranate with your alcohol is a win win. Just be careful not to spill as it stains like a motherfu…. well, you get the drift.
