I am sure that if the last year has taught you anything, it’s that scientists are right when they say that our emotions show up on our skin. Stress, anxiety and fear all exact a serious toll on your body. But since skin is the body’s largest organ, it is often the first place to show the adverse effects of this unnerving and, these days, all too familiar trifecta. Add in the fact that most of our current communication takes place over video (seriously unflattering for anyone over the age of 25), and it is easy to understand why many of us are not feeling our best. So, lately, I’ve been testing out a theory. If we know that happiness can make your skin glow, is the reverse also true — Can glowing skin make you happy? I am pleased to say that it certainly helps. Here is my recipe for glowing skin that doesn’t cause sun damage and maybe even protect you from pollution.
Biossance™ + D-Bronzi Drops™
Although I have been an avid “lotions & potions” junkie for most of my life, I have tended to shy away from products that would make my skin shimmer. When I was younger, it reminded me too much of Crystal Carrington on “Dallas”. And as I got older, well…. shimmer tends to settle into wrinkles and really, who wants to emphasize those, right? Because of this, I basically ignored the highlighters on the face trend that has been so hot for the past few years.
But it turns out that the new highlighting products are nothing like the shimmer of old. And, when used correctly, they can be a game changer for aged skin. Drunk Elephant’s D-Bronzi™ Anti-Pollution Sunshine Drops have been a mainstay on most “best in beauty” lists for years. I discovered it on a dark day early in the pandemic when I was feeling particularly in need of a pick-me-up. It is not a highlighter per se, but it does infuse your skin with a really flattering, natural looking glow.
Described as “sunshine in a bottle”, this is a product that lives up to its hype. However, you can not apply it directly to the skin as it’s too dark which is why I started mixing it with my Biossance™ Mineral Sunscreen moisturizer. The end result is a truly healthful glow.
What is a Healthful Glow?
As a recovering sunbather, I no longer think that a tan looks healthy. It is simply sun damage and wrinkles in the making. So, a perfect healthful glow for me is a bit of natural looking bronze that also contains sunscreen. This has been a hard combination to find. Most of the tinted sunscreen moisturizers and self tanners are not the right color for my skin and/or smell funny. This is why I was so happy to stumble upon my current glowing skin recipe of Biossance™ + D-Bronzi™ Drops.
Benefits of Biossance™
I have been on the hunt for a good mineral sunscreen forever. The problem with most of them is that they go on like glue and leave a white residue on the skin. This is not the case with Biossance™ Squalane + Zinc Sheer Mineral Sunscreen (buy it here). This baby just melts into your skin, no matter your skin tone.
Other benefits of Biossance™ include:
- Seriously hydrating
- Lightweight
- Sheer
- Non-toxic
- Great for sensitive skin
- SPF 30 mineral sunscreen
- Protects against pollution
The latter is important. More and more studies are coming out showing how detrimental even the slightest bit of pollution is for your skin so anything that can help mitigate this damage is a good thing in my book.
D-Bronzi™ Anti-Pollution Sunshine Drops
With my 1-2 punch of Biossance™ + D-Bronzi™, you get a double dose of pollution protection. These sunshine drops are also:
- Vegan
- Free of essential oils, fragrances, silicones so good for sensitive skin
- Hydrating
- Full of powerful anti-oxidants
But what I love most about the D-Bronzi™ drops (buy it here) is that my skin’s glow looks completely natural. Since I rarely wear makeup these days, even though I have definitely reached an age where I look better with a little makeup on, I love any skincare product that can work to camouflage some of the inevitable signs of aging. I find that the hydrating elements and slight shimmery glow of these two products help to:
- Blur fine lines & wrinkles
- Even out blotchy skin tone & texture
Best of all, they can help make me look rested and healthy even when I am feeling like dog doo. So, can glowing skin make you happy? I think so.
